White key 9. Chops the sound in 16th-note patterns, locked to the tempo.

Knob Page 1 Page 2
1 Pattern: 8 steps of 16ths, x......., x...x..., ..x...x., x....x.., x..x..x., x.x.x.x., x.x.xx.., xxxxxxxx (default xxxxxxxx) Mix: at less than full, closed steps duck instead of mute (the SP-404MK2’s DEPTH)
2 Decay: 10 ms to 1 s (default 1 s) Stereo: the left channel plays a pattern up the list, the right one down, 0-7 apart (default off)
3 Chance: each step flipped at random, up to 90% (default off) Band
4 Shuffle: the even steps late, up to two thirds of a 16th, a triplet swing (default straight) Level
  • Steps are 16ths, counted from the tempo like the filter LFO, so a pattern is half a bar. Each step that’s on starts the envelope again: a 10 ms attack, then the decay (knob 2).
  • Pressing the key starts the envelope again too, at once, the same 10 ms attack and decay, whatever step the pattern is on: the sound comes in on the press, and doesn’t drop out before the next step that’s on.
  • LEDs: the key is yellow; the knobs go yellow to green.
